Por lo cual yo como ceniza
a manera de pan
y mi bebida mezclo con lágrimas.
Salmo 102: 9

“For I eat ashes as my food
and mingle my drink with tears.”
Psalm 102: 9
Speaking of sin, of our faults, or how we offend God, is an unpopular topic. No one has the attitude of the psalmist, to repent with tears and penances. We numb our moral conscience with illumination and hedonistic thinking that dominates our society. I think we could talk about an anesthetized conscience.
It is true that it is much more pleasant to talk and think and meditate on the Holy love of God and His Great mercy, but we can not lose sight of our humanity and our sinfulness. In this sense, only God's Spirit can illuminate our conscious and reveal what needs to be cleansed and forgiven by God, this is the first step. Then comes the repentance and forgiveness.
Repentance is not only to recognize that the way we are going is wrong but also to start a new journey that will take us back into communion and intimacy with God. This journey also takes us to freedom and to recover our well-being and health.
When the psalmist speaks of ‘ashes like food, and mingled my drink with tears’, it reminds me that repentance leads to silence before God, for what could we tell him?. I think it's enough to approach him with humility in our hearts and let Him work in our lives. We come not to speak but to listen. We know that in the house of our Father, we are always welcome.
